Breed History

This medium-large domestic breed dog was developed by Karl Friedrich Louis Doberman in the late 1800s primarily as a guard dog.

Although the ancestry of the Doberman is not known, it is believed that the dog is a combination of several dog breeds some of which are German Pinscher, German shepherd dog, English greyhound, Rottweiler amongst others.

The Doberman is highly energetic and best suited for activities such as police work, family guardian amongst others.

Temperament

Although the Doberman Pinscher is a sweet and affectionate dog with a good relationship with people and also loyal to its owner, it has the tendency to become aggressive if not properly trained.

Aside from this, the Doberman is all shades of confidence, intelligence, energetic and obedience. It has low tendency to bark and needs moderate attention.

Environment

The Doberman’s adaptability to an environment is highly dependent on how it is raised. If it is exercised daily, it can adapt to apartment living. It can also live outdoors although living inside the home is advisable.

If the Doberman is socialized at an early age, it can live and bond well with other animals. The owner of the Doberman should also be a highly intelligent person who is willing to go the mile in giving it the required training.

Exercise

In order to avoid being aggressive and destructive, the Doberman needs daily physical and mental exercise. This can be achieved with a long walk, jog and run in the park. These exercises should be carried out in the mornings and evenings in order to get the best results.

Grooming

One good thing about the Doberman pinscher is the fact that it requires low maintenance based on its maintenance.

Its maintenance requirement includes checking and brushing of teeth, nails trimming, cleaning ears, bathing, brushing its coat, etc. Also, the Doberman pinscher produces eye boogers that need to be wiped on a daily basis.
