Cockapoo

The Cockapoo dog breed is a small-sized dog that is pretty adorable and kind of looks like a hamster. Their size doesn’t match their personality as this breed is ready to play for hours at a stretch. This dog isn’t a pure breed and as a matter of fact, it is one of the first designer dogs as its existence dates back to the ’60s. this dog is people-oriented and has a lot of great qualities too, but first, a little about its origin. Discover more about our Cockapoo puppies for sale below!

Brief history

This hybrid came to be in the ’60s. Its initial breeding may have been accidental but it yielded a great species of puppies that were fun, loving, almost odorless, intelligent and very smart. The Cockapoo was created as a result of a poodle and a Cocker Spaniel and their lineage grew.

This breed wasn’t developed for its herding skills neither was it sought after for its hunting techniques, the Cockapoo is a sweet and loving dog and its temperament along with its intelligence is why it’s sought after as a house pet.

Temperament

Cockapoos are very easy to please. They are happy dog breeds and they were developed as a dog for companionship. These dogs are happy, easygoing, and they get along with everyone. Cockapoos can be active as much as they want to but they also enjoy snuggling up to their owners. Being a descendant of the poodle, you can expect a lot of intelligent characteristics.

It’s cocker spaniel heritage also contribute to its loving nature and great disposition. They are really sweet and can display traits of separation anxiety when left alone. Cockapoos are friendly with everyone regardless of their species. They’ll get along with humans, kids, strangers, and other dogs too.

Environment

This breed has a lot of fur courtesy of its poodle fathers, hence it can adapt to both temperature extremities. They are well suited for apartment life and can exist fairly on the farm. These dogs are very active and they love going to the park and playing dog sports.

Cockapoos have little wanderlust potentials and they can thrive in environments filled with love and warmth. This breed is very sensitive and they can pick up moods from their environment.

Exercise

Cockapoos are dog breeds that are easy to train and their exercise needs are a little on the high side. This could be a repercussion of their playfulness but Cockapoos require a fair amount of intensive workouts several hours a week. They are intelligent and when trained can understand simple commands so playing ‘fetch’ will not be a problem for this breed.

When they’re left alone they could get bored and start chewing up items like socks, paper or small shoes too. Hence be sure to keep them exercised before you leave. This breed is intelligent and can be great for novice dog owners.

Grooming

The coat of this breed could be curly or straight depending on the percentage of parent traits embedded in said dog, however, a Cockapoo’s coat shouldn’t be kinky or anything of the sort. Cockapoos originate from dogs that are supposed to be odorless and non-shedding.

However, ‘non-shedding’ in dogs is somewhat an exaggeration as all dogs with fur shed in different percentages. Hence, the Cockapoo sheds a little bit per year. Daily brushing is required for a coat this long and bathing should be as necessary.

Remember to check ears for infections, brush his/her teeth 2-3 times weekly and carefully trim the nails twice a month. All of which you can perform on your own.

Our Cockapoo puppies for sale come from either USDA licensed commercial breeders or hobby breeders with no more than 5 breeding mothers. USDA licensed commercial breeders account for less than 20% of all breeders in the country.
